BT is one of the world’s leading communications services companies, serving the needs of customers in the UK and in more than 170 countries worldwide. Their main activities are the provision of fixed telephony lines and calls, broadband, mobile and TV products and services as well as managed networked IT services.

BT provides research, development and consulting services, developing innovative technological ideas and solutions that translate into practical and marketable solutions for the business. BT research labs played a leading role in the development of global communications standards.

BT is an active participant in European collaborative research and development and has participated in all the past EU Framework Programmes, primarily in the ICT area. Within the Horizon 2020 Programme BT is currently participating in four projects, whilst within the 7th Framework Programme we co-ordinated four projects, provided technical leadership on two further projects and partnered in twenty four other projects. Five of these projects currently remain active.

Role in the Project

BT is an active participant in European collaborative research and development and has participated in all the past EU Framework Programmes, primarily in the ICT area. BT’s role in the project is providing use cases, modelling data, application characterization and practical validation of results.

  • Peter Willis
    Peter Willis Chief Researcher

    Peter Willis is Chief Researcher, Data networks in BT’s Research and Innovation Division. He is currently responsible for BT’s NFV Research Programme. Peter kicked off BT’s research in NFV in 2011 and was the first researcher from a network operator to publish NFV testing results.

  • Philip Eardley
    Philip Eardley Principal Researcher

    Philip Eardley is Principal Researcher, Networks in BT’s Research and Innovation Division. Phil is currently working on NFV Research, including the Horizon 2020 Superfluidity and Sonata projects. Phil is active in the IETF and has developed novel IP congestion and QoS control mechanisms.
